Read about women who have been helped by the YWCA December 6 Fund:
a thank you letter
In 2006 we had a loan recipient who unfortunately, due to high demand for loans at that particular time had to be placed on a waiting list. She sent us the following thank you letter, which she gave us permission to share, with some updates about her life.
The day the Loans Officer called me (to say a loan was available) was the best day of my life. I was beginning to think I would never get off the waiting list. I had exhausted all my other financial options. My husband almost killed me, twice. The first time was before my daughter was born. He promised me he would never do it again, so I stayed. But the second time, my 18 month-old daughter witnessed everything. I couldn’t forgive him that time. Although I was afraid to leave, I was more afraid of what he might do to her or that my daughter might have to live without a mother. So, when he went to work I took a few of our most important things and went to a women’s shelter.
The loan towards rent from The December 6 Fund has helped us both move into a safe home where he can’t find us. I’m even hoping to go to college in a few months so that I can find a better job. My daughter and I are free from violence and that would never have happened without the December 6 Fund.
Thank you for saving my life.
